Commission Report

by Christie Grandbois

The Endowment Committee Presents…

An Estate Planning Seminar.

This seminar will cover what to consider when preparing or updating your will or trust documents, including: living will, power of attorney, and charitable inclinations.  Even if you have a plan in place with ever-changing legislation it is important to be informed on the most up to date laws and how they can affect you.

If you don’t have a plan in place now is the time to learn the process. This opportunity will provide you with the information you need. Just remember without specific arrangements in place the government will make all of these decisions for you regarding your estate.

This information will be presented by Thomas J. Woessner attorney with Lindquist & Vennum, PLLP. Mr. Woessner is a former chair of the Hennepin County Bar Association’s Probate and Estate Section. Mr. Woessner currently serves as treasurer of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Probate and Trust Law Section Council and is a member of the Minneapolis Estate Planning Council.

Please join us for this seminar on:

Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m.

in the Fellowship Hall. Please remember to sign up in the narthex.

Using our great varieties of gifts, we contribute our time, talent and treasure to Manifest Christ's Love to the World.  See how you can participate by giving to our annual fund drive and our endowment funds.

Stewardship is a way of life here at Epiphany.  Our community is exciting and diverse.  We all have a variety of gifts of time, talent and treasure that come together to form  a basket of abundance.  With joy and thanksgiving we share our gifts with our church, our  community and our world. Our annual fund drive takes place in October and November of each year.  One time gifts and annual pledges are accepted at any time. Our endowment fund began in 2005.  You can contribute.  We are growing  as God’s Episcopal outpost in the Northwest metro area of the Twin Cities!

The Endowment Committee is in the process of setting up the timeline for an educational series on Church of the Epiphany’s Endowment Fund. This is why over the past few Witness publications we have begun highlighting different ways one can give to the endowment fund. Our plan is to discuss these opportunities in more detail during the educational series. More to come in the next few months!

Endowment Giving – Benefiting Others through Your Will

In addition to being a convenient way to distribute an estate, a will can also be a creative vehicle for making thoughtful gifts. After providing for the needs of loved ones, you may choose one of several ways to benefit a charitable organization. By having your attorney revise your will or add a simple amendment, you can underscore your commitment with a gift of a dollar amount, a specific property, a percentage of your estate, or what is left after remembering your loved ones. You may also wish to name a charitable beneficiary in the event that heirs do not survive you.
